BIO
NUNGARA is a Brazilian-born, Berlin-based power trio bringing their own brand of “dark groove metal” to the European scene. NUNGARA means “equal” or “alike” in Tupi-Guarani (an indigenous South American language family). Their music draws on ancestral roots with trance inducing heavy riffs and haunting melodies. Their raw and unique sound dances between two polarities: soft female vocals and ferocious growls carried by explosive guitars. Through philosophical and mythical lyrics, listeners are invited to look inward and reconnect with themselves and the natural world.
Founded in 2019 by Brazilian vocalist/guitarist Noelle dos Anjos (ex-Cobra Spell) and drummer Murilo Frade in Berlin, they were recently joined by fellow Brazilian bassist Artur Cipriani (Amuro, ex-Human Abyss) to complete the trio. The band’s debut single, “Sumauma” (2020) raised awareness about the fires devastating the Amazon Rainforest.
In May 2025, NUNGARA co-headlined an 11-date tour across Germany, the Czech Republic, and Poland. This past August they were invited to play the Neuborn Open Air Festival for over 3,000 people in Wörrstadt, Germany. Catch their live performance here.
NUNGARA released their debut EP “Reflections in Stillness” in 2023, and they are currently working on their first full-length album set for release in 2026.
