BIO
NUNGARA is a Brazilian Dark Groove Metal trio blending heavy grooves, tribal rhythms, and haunting melodies. Founded in 2019 by Brazilian vocalist/guitarist Noelle dos Anjos (ex-Cobra Spell) and drummer Murilo Frade, the band draws on both ancestral roots and philosophical reflection to craft a sound that’s raw, intense and profoundly immersive. Felix Patzig joined as bassist from 2021 to 2024, and in 2025, bassist Artur Cipriani (Amuro, ex-Human Abyss) joined the lineup, bringing precision and weight to the band’s dynamic.
The name NUNGARA, meaning “equal” or “similar” in Tupi-Guarani, reflects their ongoing exploration of duality, transformation and inner balance. Deeply influenced by stoic philosophy, personal struggle, and a reverence for nature, their music encourages reflection. Listeners are challenged to look inward and reconnect with both themselves and the natural world.
The band’s debut single, “Sumauma” (2020) raised awareness about the fires devastating the Amazon Rainforest. In 2023, they independently released the EP Reflections in Stillness, followed by the video for “Moon Swallower,” one of the heaviest and darkest tracks in their catalog. In 2025, they released the music video for “North Star”, a piece that was well received by both longtime fans and new listeners.
In May 2025, NUNGARA co-headlined an 11-date tour across Germany, the Czech Republic, and Poland expanding their reach and bringing their powerful live show to a broader European audience. Their debut full-length album is currently in the works and set for release in 2026, further exploring their connection to ancestral Brazilian roots and solidifying their distinctive sound.
NUNGARA invites you to join them on a journey through darkness and light, chaos and balance. Listen to their music here.
